6. Apply a light coat of Mobil HTS grease (or food
grade antisieze) to the top portion of the spindle
shaft where the sheave mounts.
7. Install the double sheave (item 12) onto the right
spindle shaft. Install the spring disc washer and
nut. Make sure that the spring disc washer cone is
installed towards nut (see Figure 10). Torque the
sheave nut to 140-145 ft-lb (190–197 N-m).
Block the blade rotation with a block of wood
between the blade and baffles as indicated in the
blade service section of the Lazer Z Operator's
manual. Do Not use the blade bolt to prevent
rotation.

140-145 ft-lb (190–197
N-m).
Check blade bolt torque after completing this
installation.
For units with a 5/8-18 x 2 3/4 inch blade bolt,
torque to 115-120 ft-lb (156-163 N-m).
8. Re-install the deck drive belt in the lower groove of
the double sheave. Install the plug (item 40) into the
bore of the double sheave.
9. Remove the discharge chute from the deck. Discard
the mounting hardware, but save the discharge chute
for use during side discharge operation. The chute
pivot pin (item 21) and hairpin (item 22) may be
stored in the pivot holes on the discharge chute
during bagging operation.
Units Serial Number 599,999 and Lower
With Splined Blade Driver:
1. Stop the engine, remove the key, and wait for all
moving parts to stop.
2. Lower the deck fully. Remove the right hand belt
cover. Remove the belt cover mounting stud that
protrudes from the deck.

2. Install with cone towards
nut.
3. Remove the right side belt shield and the 5/16 x 3
1/4 inch bolt that secures the shield to the deck.
4. Remove the blade from the right spindle.
5. Insert special tool 109-2979 into splined end of
spindle shaft.
6. Remove the right sheave nut, spring disc washer, and
drive sheave from the spindle shaft– keep hardware
for re-use.
Use special tool 109-2979 to hold spindle from
rotating. Do Not use the blade bolt to prevent
rotation.
7. Apply a light coat of Mobil HTS grease (or food
grade antiseize) to the top portion of the spindle
shaft where the sheave mounts.
8. Install the double sheave (item 12) onto the right
spindle shaft. Install the spring disc washer and
nut. Make sure that the spring disc washer cone is
installed towards nut (see Figure 11). Torque the
sheave nut to 140-145 ft-lb (190-197 N-m).
Use special tool 109-2979 to hold spindle from
rotating. Do Not use the blade bolt to prevent
rotation.
1. Sheave nut-torque to 140-145 ft-lb (190-197 N-m)
2. Spring disc washer (cone towards nut)
3. Double sheave (item 12)
4. Special tool 109-2979
9. Reinstall the blade and torque bolt to:
For units with a 1/2-20 x 2 inch blade bolt,
torque to 50-60 ft-lb (75-81 N-m).
