10. General Carbon Monoxide (CO) Information

ofcarbonmonoxidecanbefatalorcausepermanentdamageand
disabilities.Manycasesofreportedcarbonmonoxidepoisoningindicate

11. Cleaning Your Alarm

Your alarm should be cleaned at least once a year
Youcancleantheinteriorofyouralarm(sensingchamber)byusing
compressedairoravacuumcleanerhoseandblowingorvacuuming
throughtheopeningsaroundtheperimeterofthealarm.Theoutsideof
thealarmcanbewipedwithadampcloth.Useonlywatertodampen
thecloth,useofdetergentsorcleanerscoulddamagethealarm.
Aftercleaning,testyouralarmbyusingthetestbutton.Ifcleaningdoes
notrestorethealarmtonormaloperation,thealarmshouldbereplaced.
• Neverusedetergentorothersolventstocleantheunit.
•  A voidsprayingairfreshener,hairspray,orotheraerosolsnear
thealarm.
• Donotpainttheunit.Paintwillsealtheventsandinterferewith
thesensor'sabilitytodetectsmokeandCO.
• Neverattempttodisassembletheunitorcleaninside.Thisaction
willvoidyourwarranty.
• ThefollowingsubstancescanaffecttheCOsensorandmay
causefalsereadingsanddamagetothesensor:Methane,
propane,isobutane,iso-propanol,ethylacetate,hydrogen
sulfide,sulfidedioxides,alcoholbasedproducts,paints,thinner,
solvents,adhesives,hairspray,aftershave,perfume,andsome
cleaningagents.
