Alarm Exit Procedure

Leaveimmediatelybyyourescapeplan.Everysecondcounts,so
don'twastetimegettingdressedorpickingupvaluables.

Inleaving,don'topenanyinsidedoorwithoutfirstfeelingits
surface.Ifhot,orifyouseesmokeseepingthroughcracks,don't
openthatdoor!Instead,useyouralternateexit.Iftheinsideof
thedooriscool,placeyourshoulderagainstit,openitslightlyand
bereadytoslamitshutifheatandsmokerushin.

Stayclosetotheflooriftheairissmokey.Ifpossibledonot
breathetoodeeplytoavoidsmokeinhalation.Breathethrougha
cloth(preferablywet)ifpossible.

Onceoutside,gotoyourselectedmeetingplaceandmakesure
everyoneisthere.

Callthefiredepartmentfromyourneighbor'shome-notfrom
yours!

Don'treturntoyourhomeuntilthefireofficialssaythatitisall
righttodoso.

Therearesituationswhereasmokealarmmaynotbeeffectiveto
protectagainstfire.Forinstance:
a)smokinginbed
b)leavingchildrenhomealone
c)cleaningwithflammableliquids,suchasgasoline
d) fireswherethevictimisintimatewithaflaminginitiatedfire;for
example,whenaperson'sclothescatchfirewhilecooking
e) f ireswherethesmokeispreventedfromreachingthe
detectorduetoacloseddoororotherobstruction
f) incendiaryfireswherethefiregrowssorapidlythatanoccupant's
egressisblockedevenwithproperlylocateddetectors
