VACON® RS485 and CAN Bus Option Boards
Installation Guide
For example, the following cables are recommended:
Lapp Kabel UNITRONICR BUS LD FD P A, part number 2170813 or 2170814
Belden 9841
The plug type to be used is 2.5 mm
The theoretical maximum cable length depends on baud rate. See the following table for suggested maximum cable lengths.

4.3 Cable Requirements for CAN Type Option Boards

The recommended cables for installation are four-wire twisted and shielded cables with an impedance of 120 Ω. The network topol-
ogy is a two-wire bus line that is terminated at both ends by resistors showing the characteristic impedance of the bus line.
The typical CAN bus cable impedance is 120 Ω, thus use termination resistance of ~120 Ω. For long networks, use a higher resistance
value (150–300 Ω). Minimum cable length of 1 meter between two stations is recommended.
