Checking of the charging amount of solution and refrigerant
Check shall be performed when the load of the chiller-heater is 100%. If the refrigerant volume is
too small, crystallization or cavitation of the refrigerant pump may occur to result in accidents. On
the contrary, if it is too much, the chiller-heater may not display its full performance. Check the
proper volume accordingly.
A. Preparation for checking
1) Check if the flow rates and temperatures of the chilled water and cooling water are
corresponding to the specification.
2) Make sure that no solution is in the refrigerant. To confirm it take out some amount of the
refrigerant from the service valve on the discharge side of the refrigerant pump and check if
the specific gravity of the refrigerant is under 1.02. If the value is over 1.02, regenerate the
refrigerant with the refrigerant pump valve on the discharge side of the refrigerant pump.
B. Checking procedure
1). Checking of solution volume
The solution volume is checked to see the solution level from the sight glass of the absorber.
decrease of load. Thereby, check, at first, if the solution level seen at the level of 1/2 to 1/3
from the bottom of the sight glass of the absorber. And then check the concentration of the
concentrated solution with the solution temperature at the outlet of the generator, the
temperature of the condensed refrigerant and P.T.X. chart (Fig.2.2). It is good if the
concentration value is less than 64.5%.
2). Checking of refrigerant volume
The refrigerant level of the evaporator is at the highest at 100% load and it will drop according
as the decrease of load. An over-flow tube called spill-over tube for the refrigerant is installed
at the corresponding position to the highest level in the evaporator. The proper amount of
refrigerant to be charged can be checked by these means.

Record operating data
Record precisely not only the trial operation data but also daily operation data for future
reference. The records will be helpful in finding abnormal operation earlier and take proper
countermeasures for troubles. As for the recording items, refer to CHAPTER 3 "MAINTENANCE
AND INSPECTION".

5.2 Preparation for Start-up

(1)
Turn on the breaker for the power source (MCB1)
(2) Turn on the auto-manual switch to "auto" (Snap switch SW-2)
(3) Turn on to selection switch for cooling-heating (Snap switch SW-4)
(4) Make sure each timer to be set correctly.
(5) Make sure each parameter for temperature control to be set correctly.
