DVD/CD drive replacement

Disk drive removal

Power off the unit (see "How to power off the server"
on page 45) and then remove the rear and front lids
(see "Front lid removal" on page 83) to access the
part.

disconnect the 40-pin IDE cable and the mini 4-pin
power connector from the rear of the DVD/CD drive.

Remove the two Flat Head, #6-32x5 mm screws on the
DVD/CD mounting bracket and lift the drive clear of
the chassis.

Remove the mounting bracket from the DVD/CD
drive.

Remove the DVD/CD adapter board from the back of
the drive by removing the two Pan Head, M2x8mm
screws.

Powered-off replacement parts
Disk drive installation

Secure the DVD/CD adapter board to the new DVD/
CD using the two Pan Head, M2x8 mm screws
previously removed.

Insert the new DVD/CD drive into the mounting
bracket and snap the fingers into the slim DVD/CD
Drive mounting holes.

Replace the DVD/CD drive into the chassis and secure
the mounting plate using the two Flat Head, #6-
32x5 mm screws previously removed, taking care not
to trap any cables.

Connect the 40-pin IDE cable to the adapter board and
connect the mini 4-pin connector to the adaptor board.

Replace the front and rear lids (see "Front lid
replacement" on page 83) and power on the server
(see "How to power on the system" on page 45).
Checks after replacement
After replacement, check the DVD/CD drive is
functioning by inserting a known-good disk and reading
the data from it.
