Remedial measures for problems during the firmware update
In case of an unintentional version discrepancy between the device and the configuration
project, the following error messages may be displayed in the S7 CPU diagnostic buffer:
• Error: Failure of an IO device - Unsupported device configuration
• Error: Failure of an IO device - Different device type
• Error: Failure of an IO
• Error: Failure of an IO device - Link-down at all ports of the IO controller
Solution: Make sure that you use the correct firmware version for the device in the project
downloaded to the S7 CPU.
In some cases, you must power down the device and boot it up again to restore the firmware
version. After booting, you may see the message "Error: Internal software error –
(16#8EB901BF)".
Solution: Make sure that you use the correct firmware version for the device in the project
downloaded to the S7 CPU and repeat powering down and booting the device.
The error message "Error: Failure of an IO device - IO device not found" can be output
immediately after activating the downloaded firmware (see Step 3).
Solution: Ignore the error message and download the project that matches the updated
firmware on the device (continue starting with Step 4).
After downloading the project, assign the PROFINET device name and the IP address in the
"Online access" folder. The error is resolved automatically, and you can set the S7 CPU to the
"RUN" operating state.
