Changes compared to the previous version
What is new as of firmware version V2.0 in HSP_V17_0358_001_Link_PN_CAN_V2.0?
There are now two entries in the HW catalog for the PN/CAN LINK module with firmware
versions V1.0 and V2.0. The difference between versions V1.0 and V2.0 is the "Simple slave
functionality" included in PN/CAN LINK V2.0.
The "Simple slave functionality" is available as of TIA Portal V17 and enables the PN/CAN LINK
to work with CANopen devices that do not fully comply with the CANopen standards defined
by the CiA group (https://www.can-cia.org/). You can find additional information below.

Using PN/CAN LINK V2.0
Before downloading a configuration of the PN/CAN LINK V2.0, a firmware update of the
device to version V2.0 is required.
Note
Use of a new PN/CAN LINK V2.0 (firmware version 2.0 and higher) as replacement for a
device with firmware V1.0
It is not possible to use a device with firmware V2.0 with a project that requires firmware
V1.0. To bypass this restriction, you must upgrade the PN/CAN LINK in the project from V1.0
to V2.0. More information is available in the section "Using an existing configuration" in the
chapter Installation and handling of the new HSP (Page 19).
If you are not making any changes after the upgrade, the new device will work just like the
old one. More information is available in the chapter Firmware update (Page 149).
Note
Backward compatibility
For an existing configuration of the PN/CAN LINK V2.0, a downgrade from V2.0 to V1.0 is not
possible within a TIA Portal project. When a downgrade is required, you must create a new
PN/CAN LINK module for V1.0 within a TIA Portal project. In this case, however, the "Simple
slave functionality" is not available.
You can perform a firmware update/firmware downgrade without any restrictions.
