Manage Settings for the Messages App
You use the settings of the Messages app to manage how the app handles your SMS and MMS
messages. Before you actually start working with SMS and MMS, let's take a look at the settings.
1. Tap the Menu icon.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Tap to change the default messaging app from Messages to Google Hangouts. If you use Google
Hangouts a lot for text and video chatting, you may decide that using it for text and multimedia
messages makes sense. Read more about using Google Hangouts in the "Using Google Hangouts
for SMS and MMS" sidebar at the end of this chapter.
4. Tap to manage how the Messages app looks. You can choose what kind of bubble style is used for
text message display, choose which background the app uses for messages, choose to use a split
view when you turn your Galaxy Note 4 to landscape orientation, and enable changing text size by
pressing the volume buttons.
5. Tap to control and manage text messages. This includes choosing to receive a delivery report for
text messages you send, choosing the input mode (leaving it set to Automatic is recommended),
and managing text messages that may still be on your old SIM card.
6. Tap to control how the Messages app handles multimedia messages. Settings include the ability to
request delivery and read reports and as well as to control whether to automatically retrieve
multimedia messages while roaming outside your wireless carrier's home area.
