This manual should be easily accessible to the operator at all times during instrument operation. When not using the instrument, keep this manual stored in a safe place. Should this instruction manual be lost, order a replacement from your local JASCO distributor.
Installation Conditions To ensure operation safety, observe the following conditions: Do not operate the instrument under voltage fluctuations exceeding 10% of the recommended line voltage. Otherwise, the instrument may not function properly. Use a three-prong electrical outlet with a ground. Operate the instrument under a temperature range of 10 ∞...
Consumable parts should be ordered according to part Nos. from your local JASCO distributor. If a part No. is unknown, give your JASCO distributor the model name and serial No. of your instrument.
LIMITED WARRANTY Products sold by JASCO, unless otherwise specified, are warranted for a period of one year from the date of shipment to be free of defects in materials and workmanship. If any defects in the product are found during this warranty period, JASCO will repair or replace the defective part(s) or product free of charge.
1. General Description and Specifications 1.1 General Description The Model P-1010/1020/1030 are polarimeters designed to measure the optical rotation of optically active substances. These instruments also enable the direct measurement of specific optical rotation, concentrations, sugar scales, Brix purity and optical purity.
“Power” lamp The aperture changer can be set at 8, 3, or 1.8 mm. Goes on when the power switch (shown in Figure 2.2, 2.3 and 2.4) is turned on. 2.2 Rear panel P-1010 rear panel Figure 2.2 P-1010 rear panel...

2.3 Filter Unit Remove the lid from the filter unit and replace the filter (see Fig. 2.5). Filter Front of the instrument Figure 2.5 Top view of filter unit Note: Lightly pressing the left and right ends of the disk pops up the lid of the filter unit.
3. Maintenance Always be attentive to the instrument installation environment and keep it clean so that the instrument can be used in a stabilized condition over a long period. The following describes how to clean the sample chamber contaminated with spilt sample, check if the instrument is operating properly and replace fuses and lamps.

Wipe off the sample completely with gauze wetted with water.
(3) Install the cell holder temperature sensor. 1) Insert the sensor from above the temperature sensor fixture. Note: Here, see to it that no stress is applied to the signal wire of the temperature sensor. 3.3 Consumables Table 3.1 Consumables list Parts No.
3.4 Performance Check About once every 6 months, measure a standard sample and check that there are no problems with the instrument. If there is a problem, contact your nearest JASCO distributor. Use 5%(W/V) aqueous sucrose solution as the standard sample. The specific optical rotation of aqueous sucrose solution is = 66.5°.

±0.007°. The results of repeated measurements must also be within this range. Note: Acceptance criterion of P-1010 corresponds to the expected value in the Test Certificate for interference filter. This expected value is calculated for a 10mm cell. Also the measurement value deteriorates depending on the change in the transmittance of the filter.
3.5 Replacing of Light Source 3.5.1 Replacing of Halogen Lamp for P-1010 WARNING : The lamp is still very hot after turning the ʺ″Powerʺ″ switch Off. Therefore, wait at least five minutes before touching the lamp. Note : Wear clean cloth gloves when handling the lamp.
lamp. Carefully remove the lamp from the socket holes by gently working the inserted wrench up and down. Be careful not strike the lamp against the case. Take out a new lamp from the its case and insert it perpendicularly into the socket by aligning the prongs of the lamp with the socket holes.
Figure 3.3 Lamp house of P-1030 To replace the lamp, insert the dedicated wrench between the socket and the lamp. Carefully remove the lamp from the socket holes by gently working the inserted wrench up and down. Be careful not strike the lamp against the case. Take out a new lamp from its case and insert it perpendicularly into the socket by aligning the prongs of the lamp with the socket holes.
Insert the new fuse into the holder, insert the holder back into the fuse box, then lock by turning 90° clockwise while holding the holder. Plug the power cable into the socket, turn the power switch on, then check instrument operation. Note: If a newly replaced fuse blows, contact your nearest Jasco distributor.
