General Recommendations
Regular maintenance will improve the performance and
extend the life of the generator. See any authorized Briggs
& Stratton dealer for service. Never operate a damaged or
defective generator. To receive full value from the warranty,
the operator must maintain the generator as instructed in this
section.
All service and adjustments should be made at least once
each season. Follow the requirements in the Maintenance
Schedule chart above.
NOTICE Once a year you should clean or replace the spark
plug and replace the air filter. A new spark plug and clean air
filter assure proper fuel-air mixture and help your engine run
better and last longer.
NOTICE The alternator assembly rotates on a prelubricated
and sealed ball bearing that requires no additional lubrication
for the life of the bearing.

Emissions Control
Maintenance, replacement or repair of the emissions control
devices and systems may be performed by any non-road
engine repair establishment or individual. See Emissions
Control System Warranty.
Generator Air Cooling System
It is important that the cooling system of the generator
be maintained properly to ensure safe operation, proper
performance and longevity. The cooling air louvers on the
enclosure must not become clogged with snow, leaves,
vegetation, or any other foreign material. These openings
must be kept clean and unobstructed to reduce the risk of
overheating and ignition of accumulated debris. Check the
cleanliness of the unit frequently and clean when dust, dirt,
oil, moisture or other foreign substances are visible on its
exterior/interior surface. See Clean Debris.
NOTICE DO NOT use direct spray from a garden hose to
clean generator. Water can enter the engine and generator
and cause problems.
Regular Maintenance Inspection
1. Inspection the ducting, foam/rubber gaskets and seals
for leaks. Replace if necessary
2. Remove combustibles, dust, dirt, and debris from:
• The cooling air slots and openings on generator.
• The area around the generator.
• The exterior and interior of generator enclosure.
• The top of the engine and rotating screen.
Clean Debris
• Use a damp cloth to wipe exterior surfaces clean.
• Use a soft bristle brush to loosen caked on dirt or oil.
• Use a vacuum cleaner to pick up loose dirt and debris.
Engine parts should be kept clean to reduce the risk of
overheating and ignition of accumulated debris. Use the same
instructions given above for the engine.
NOTICE Improper treatment of generator could damage it
and shorten its life.
• DO NOT expose generator to excessive moisture, dust,
dirt, or corrosive vapors.
• DO NOT insert any objects through cooling slots.
• Use a soft bristle brush to loosen caked on dirt or oil.
• Use a vacuum cleaner to pick up loose dirt and debris.
Engine Cylinder Cooling Fins
The cylinder cooling fins cannot be observed without partial
engine disassembly. For this reason, we recommend you
have an authorized Briggs & Stratton service dealer clean the
cooling system per recommended intervals.
