Adapt riding style: Ride slowly,
avoid rapid acceleration and
passing maneuvers.
If possible, have the motorcycle
picked up and the malfunction
source eliminated by a special-
ized service facility, preferably
an authorized BMW Motorrad
Retailer.
Possible cause:
The engine control unit has di-
agnosed a fault, which can lead
to a severe secondary fault. The
engine is in the emergency-oper-
ation mode.
Continued driving is possi-
ble, however it is not recom-
mended.
Avoid high load and engine
speed ranges if possible.
Have the malfunction corrected
as soon as possible at an
authorized service facility,
preferably an authorized
BMW Motorrad Retailer.
Lights for turn indicators
defective

Overlooking the vehicle in
traffic due to a defective light
source on the vehicle
Safety risk
Replace defective bulbs as
soon as possible; it is best
always to carry a complete
set of spare bulbs on the
motorcycle.
Possible cause:
Light source for turn indicator is
faulty.
Replacing front and rear turn
indicator light sources (
Possible cause:
The license-plate carrier is re-
moved; the vehicle electronics
detects the missing turn signals.
Installing license-plate carrier
