Introduction Thank you for purchasing the Infrared Thermometer Model SK-8700. The SK-8700 is conforming to the Assessment for the Japanese Consumer Law on laser equipment and carries “PSC” mark. This product is designed to measure temperature using a non-contact method. Do not use it for other purposes.

Do not touch the measurement window with a sharp or hard object. Doing so may damage the lens, causing loss of measurement accuracy. Do not use this unit in an environment where electrical noise is generated. Doing so may result in unstable display or larger errors.

Putting Vinyl cover onto the Thermometer It is recommended to use the thermometer with the vinyl cover attached. The vinyl cover will help absorb shock in case the unit is dropped accidentally, and protect the unit from becoming dirty during use. The thermometer is shipped in a vinyl cover. Hold the opening of the vinyl cover wide when inserting the unit.

Setting the Backlight While the power is on, press the backlight ON/OFF key to set the backlight on or off. While the backlight key is on, the LCD is illuminated in green so that the value displayed on the LCD can be easily read even in dark places. While the backlight key is off, the backlight is not lit. Note: While the backlight is on, the battery will be consumed faster.

8-3 Measurement of an object with an emissivity other than 0.95 Apply heat-resistant paint or tape that has an emissivity close to 0.95 to the object to be measured. Since the emissivity of metals is lower than 0.95, the temperature of a metal surface cannot be measured with this thermometer.
