Collecting Reference Spectra with the PTP-1 and
PTP-6
If the effects of temperature are important in the experiment, you can collect the reference
spectrum by running your blank in the same cell that will be used for the sample, and then
subtracting from the experimental results. In the PTP-6, an alternative method is to use one
of the six cells as a reference. Good results can be obtained using either of these methods as
they account for the effects of temperature, environment and the materials used.
If the effects of temperature are not important in the experiment, there are other possibilities
for collecting reference spectra:
PTP-1
The standard reference cell holder can be used as a reference.
PTP-6
If you are using the PTP-6 in a Lambda 25, 35 or 45 spectrometer, the single reference cell
holder (B2000201) can be installed in the automatic linear transport cell changer. See the
manual provided with the cell changer for further information.
If you are using the PTP-6 in a Lambda 650, 850 or 950 spectrometer, there is no single
reference cell holder available, so you will have to leave the reference beam empty if you
want to collect reference spectra using this method.
Alternatively, for a more precise operation, where sample and blank solutions need to be
matched individually, it is possible to use the optional six cells holder (B0120767). The cell
changer assembly allows the cells to be transported pairwise in the radiation beams. The
holder should be installed following the instructions provided in the manual for the cell
changer assembly.
