Threading the Upper Thread
The thread take-up lever and presser bar must be
raised. Hold back the spool with the tip of your
finger and pass the thread as shown in the illustration,
in the following order:
1 Thread guide.
2 Universal upper tension No. 5, give the thread
a slight tug upwards.
3 Thread take-up lever—pass the thread through the
rear of the notch in the cover, from right to left,
passing it around the thread take-up lever. The
thread will slip into the opening of the thread
take-up lever. :
4 Thread guide.
5 Needle clamp. Pull the thread well into the
clamp.
6 Needle, to be threaded from front to back.
7 Pull forward about 15 cm (6) of thread to the
front and hold it between the left index finger
and the edge of the needle plate.
8 To draw up the lower thread, the rotary hook cover
should be open and the thread take-up lever at its
elna
highest position. Give the flywheel a full turn
towards you by hand, thus lowering the thread
take-up lever and then raising it to its highest
position. Free the loop of thread completely with
your fingers.
9 Make sure that the lower thread crosses the
bobbin correctly. Close the rotary hook
cover, pull both threads about 15 cm (6)
towards the rear, passing them under the
presser foot.
You are now ready to start sewing.
Note to 2: Universal Upper Tension
This tension will be suitable for all your everyday
sewing jobs. If, however, an adjustment is required:
— to increase the tension, turn the tension dial to
the wider marks, between 5 and 9.
— to reduce the tension, turn the tension dial to -el ila
the narrower marks, between 5 and 1. ni
