General instructions prior to installation
5.1

Preparations for installation in the vehicle

The following chapter describes the preparations required for installing the EFAS tachograph in the vehicle. Before the tacho-
graph can actually be installed in a vehicle it is important to perform a careful (visual) inspection of the components present.
5.1.1

Receipt of device

On receipt of the device, please check that the packaging of the goods is intact. Check that the goods were not damaged in
transit. Any complaints about transport damage should be made to the carrier immediately as subsequent complaints about
transport damage cannot be considered.
Please also check before installation that the unit is in factory condition and whether the installed software is up to date.
The software must be approved by the manufacturer, Intellic GmbH, and certified by the official EU approval bodies. The certified

5.1.2

Storage

Store the EFAS tachograph in its original packaging and protect it from moisture. The tachograph must not be exposed to any
unusual mechanical loads.

Visual inspection before installation

Do not remove the device from its original packaging until immediately prior to installation.
Please check,
y
That the type label is properly affixed to the device and that it is undamaged and readable.
y
that the seal on the base panel of the device is undamaged.
y
whether the device shows any damage through transport or other signs of mechanical damage.
y
that the date of manufacture of the tachograph is not longer than 12 months ago.
y
that the current, certified software version is installed (see Chapter 16).
Note
Do not remove the protective film from the display until after installation.
Note
If the date of manufacture is more than 12 months in the past, please replace the internal buffer battery.
If all the checks are satisfactory, you can commence with the installation itself. Please return tachographs that have been
damaged or apparently manipulated during transit to your dealer immediately.
If you need to replace the battery, please follow the instructions in section 6.2.6. The data of manufacture is noted on the type
label.
Please ensure when handling the tachograph that the device

is not thrown or dropped.
y
does not come into contact with water, other liquids or with chemicals.
y
is not exposed to any unusual mechanical influences.
y
is not exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods.
5.1.4

Details on the type label

The tachograph EFAS is supplied with a universal power adapter so that it can be installed in vehicles with a 24 V or 12 V supply.
The following shows an example of an EFAS type label with explanatory notes that explain the data it contains.
