     Bed rail entrapment is a serious health risk that can result in serious injury or even death. Sizewise recommends the care provider be mindful of the FDA guidelines relevant to bed rail entrapment, as serious injury can result. It is also the care provider’s ultimate decision whether or not to use bed rails with the patient.

    Device Information Description of the Device The Platinum 6000™ System incorporates alternating pressure therapy techniques to reduce interface pressures on the skin surface. When the patient is placed on the mattress surface, the mattress firmness is adjusted automatically after the patient’s height and weight are entered on the display panel.

    Set-Up on Sizewise Bed Frames Follow these steps for installation on Sizewise (and most non-Sizewise bedframes: 1. Verify mattress is the correct size for the bed frame top deck. Refer to Side Rail Entrapment Guidelines on page 18.

    Operating Instructions Control Unit Operation Power On/Standby Toggles between Power On and Standby mode. When Power is selected, the Power LED and the other displays are illuminated, but no power is applied to the compressor until a mode is selected. If no mode is selected, Auto Firm mode is activated after 5 minutes.
  • Page 12 Low Pressure Warning If a problem exists with maintaining pressure in the active alternation channel, this LED will blink and an audible alarm will sound. Cycle Time This button selects the cycle time of alternating pressure between 5, 10, and 15 minute periods. When the pump is in Auto Firm or Immersion Mode, this button is not functional.

    NOTE: The Platinum 6000™ top cover is designed for use without a top sheet. If a bottom sheet is desired, place a flat sheet over the top cover and allow it to drape over on all 4 sides of the bed. DO NOT tuck in the ends of the sheet under the mattress. The bottom sheet must have give to conform to the patient’s body profile.

    Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) requires a rapid deflation of the mattress. If CPR is required, twist the CPR Plug on the top right hand side of the mattress. Also, remove the hoses from the controller by depressing the latch on the connector for each hose to release the hose from the controller.

    Patient Care Functions Placing the Patient on the Mattress Surface Place the patient on the mattress surface from a bed or stretcher with a transfer device. The mattress should be set in the Auto Firm mode. In order to ensure proper immersion and envelopment of the patient, the user should: 1.

    If the patient would have any clinical conditions that could result in risk of falling or improperly lying in bed, the bed should be left at its lowest setting and in flat position when not attended. Sizewise recommends the use of bed rails if they are available. There are seven zones of bed rail entrapment.

    Mattress Cleaning Instructions WARNING and CAUTION: It is recommended that gloves and protective clothing be worn at all times during cleaning and disinfecting. DO NOT autoclave. NOTE: Improper cleaning, rinsing or the incorrect use of cleaning agents can lead to premature fabric discoloration and breakdown of the fabric’s fluid-resistance, stain-resistance and fabric strength.

    Clostridium difficile (C. diff) Prevention: Clorox Germicidal Wipes (Clorox Professional Products Company), EPA Reg. #67619-12 These pre-moistened wipes meet the CDC’s recommendations for Clostridium difficile (C.diff) bacteria, after the manufacturer’s recommended “wet contact time”. 1. Perform hand hygiene using soap and warm water, or hand sanitizer, and then put on disposable gloves and eye protection.

    Check the items on this chart at the indicated intervals. If any of the items are loose, worn, bent or distorted immediately have them checked and/or repaired by an authorized Sizewise technician. Frequent maintenance and servicing will improve performance and extend bed life.
