  • Page 4 Market Central, Inc. 2. Introduction ® The R5000 SwitchMaster Switching System is a 2U 19” rack style chassis containing multiple A/B Switch Cards. Each switch card connects port A or port B to port C, through latching or non-latching telecommunication relays or fiber optic switch mechanisms.

Switch position 1 is the least significant bit, and position 8 is the most significant bit.

  • Page 10 Market Central, Inc. 5.1 RS-232 Serial Switching The RS232 version of the Controller Card allows the user to remotely switch all of the cards in a rack or system of daisy-chained racks using the serial commands listed in Table 5.1.1 below. The SNMP/Ethernet version of the Controller Card does not support the one character serial commands listed in Table 5.1.1 below, but instead uses the...
  • Page 11 Market Central, Inc. 5.3 RS232 Console Commands (for SNMP/Ethernet Controller Card) This section is applicable to SNMP/Ethernet Controller Cards. The GANG-IN RS232 interface on the SNMP/Ethernet Controller Card operates at 9600. The GANG OUT interface operates at 2400 bps. This allows the GANG OUT interface to connect to the GANG IN port on another R5000 (that does not have the Ethernet Module installed) so that multiple racks can be daisy-chain connected together.

  • Page 13 Market Central, Inc. When the auto switching feature is enabled, manual and remote switching can still be performed using the front panel toggle switch or by issuing serial or Ethernet commands, but this can affect the operation of the automatic switching feature.

    Market Central, Inc. Network Connections for Auto Failover & Auto Recovery (FAILOVER mode) Note: The R5000 monitors the WAN connections by PINGing the far side router thru the primary WAN link. If the primary WAN link fails, the R5000 auto switches to the backup WAN link. When the primary WAN link is available again, the R5000 auto switches back to the primary WAN path.
