FortiWiFi-60B FortiOS 3.0 MR6 Install Guide
01-30006-0447-20080131
This chapter describes the modem interface configuration options. The FortiWiFi
unit supports the modem interface only when running in NAT/Route mode.
You can configure the modem interface for stand alone mode, the direct
connection to the Internet, or for redundant mode, to act as a backup connection
to the Internet, should the primary connection fail.
This chapter includes the following topics:
Selecting a modem mode
Configuring modem settings
Configuring the modem using the CLI
Adding a Ping Server
Adding firewall policies for modem connections
Administrative access through the modem port
Configuring the PCMCIA modem card
The modem interface can work in one of two modes: redundant and stand alone
mode.
To select an operational mode for the modem interface
Go to System > Network > Modem.
Select Enable modem.
Select Redundant for the mode.
To select an operational mode using the CLI, type:
config system modem
set status enable
set status mode redundant
end
The redundant modem interface is a backup to the external interface connected to
the Internet. If the Ethernet connection goes down for whatever reason, the
modem automatically dials the configured dial-up account(s). When the modem
connects to a dial-up account, the FortiWiFi unit routes IP packets normally
destined for the selected Ethernet interface to the modem interface. During this
time, the FortiWiFi unit pings the Ethernet connection to check when it is back
online.
