Unpack Your Scanner

Make sure you have everything for your EPSON
Perfection 1670 Photo scanner
(cover includes transparency unit)
Power cord and AC adapter

Remove all the packing tape, but leave the large sticker in place until
instructed to remove it.
IMPORTANT!
Leave the sticker in
place until you are
instructed to remove it

Install the Software

Wait! You must install your software before connecting the scanner to
your computer. The installation process may take several minutes.
Be sure to close all open programs and turn off any virus
protection programs.
Note: The software works with Windows
®
Macintosh
OS 8.6 to 9.x and OS X 10.2.x.

Insert the scanner software CD-ROM in the CD-ROM or DVD drive. The
installer starts automatically in Windows; on a Macintosh, the EPSON
folder opens.
If it doesn't start, do the following:
•
Windows XP: Click Start, click My Computer, then double-click EPSON.
•
Windows 98, Me, and 2000: Double-click My Computer, then double-
click EPSON.

Macintosh: Double-click the

If you're using Mac
double-click the EPSON icon. Enter your Administrator name and password,
and click OK.
If you're using Mac OS 8.6 to 9.x, double-click the EPSON icon.

Read the license agreement, then click Agree.

    If you’re using Mac double-click the EPSON icon. Enter your Administrator name and password, and click OK. If you’re using Mac OS 8.6 to 9.x, double-click the EPSON icon. Read the license agreement, then click Agree. At the Software Installation screen, click Install.

    Follow the on-screen instructions to install each program. Click Next or Finish (Windows) or Quit (Macintosh) to continue, as needed. Note that EPSON Smart Panel™ installs in several steps. At the end of the installation, click Exit. If you see a Product Registration screen, register your scanner as instructed.

    Press the ] Start button on your scanner. Note: In Windows XP, you may see a message the first time you press the ] Start button. Select EPSON Smart Panel, click Always use this program for this action, then click OK.

    Scanning Tips Selecting the Scanning Mode EPSON Scan has three scanning modes: • Full Auto Mode allows the software to automatically select the best settings for your scan. • Home Mode lets you adjust some of the basic settings before you scan.

    Placing Film on the Scanner The Perfection 1670 Photo scanner cover has a built-in transparency unit (TPU). To scan negative film or slides, you’ll need to remove the reflective document mat from the cover and place the film in a holder on the scanner glass.
