5.4 Securing Station Hardware

Take into consideration the radio cable routing, station orientation, and drilling location
to determine the installation position. When location has been determined, ensure that pilot
holes will not damage hidden vehicle components such as radiators, electrical wiring, etc. Mark
hole locations with pencil and drill pilot holes. Then, using appropriately sized sheet metal
screws, screw down the station until it is held snuggly. When mounting enclosures
to steel backing panels greater than 1/16" thick or aluminum panels greater than 1/8" thick, it
is advisable to use self-tapping machine screws or to drill and tap for the mounting screws.
This precaution will eliminate the possibility of shearing off the screw heads during installation.
If you are securing a MACB (Microphone Adapter Cable) Box or Jump Seat Station Box to an
uneven surface, a Setcom PN 12-4100 Metal Backup Plate is available. Pass-through holes
for the interconnecting cabling connectors should be 3/4". An appropriately sized grommet
should be installed in the pass through holes to protect the system cabling. Double-sided tape
may only be used to mount the IM-900 Master Station.

5.5 IM-900 and IM-900E Master Stations

It is best to first locate and mount the IM-900 (IM-900E) Intercom/Mixer and the
microphone adapter cable (MACB-xx, LMACB-xx) or radio cable (RC-xx) followed by the
remote stations. Select a convenient mounting location, between the Driver and Captain. The
location should be chosen as to not interfere with normal operations of the crew. Ceiling and
back wall or window are excellent mounting positions for the IM-900 and will normally require
use of the LMACB-xx Microphone Adapter Cable or a RC-XX Radio Cable. These devices
both have an 18 foot cable to run between the device and the IM-900 radio port. Other
mounting locations may benefit from the use of an Extension Station or Remote Station Jack
for the driver and/or officer. Double-sided tape should be used for installation of the master
station on glass. If the IM-900 is to be mounted on a window that has a sliding section it should
be mounted on the fixed section at a location that will not restrict opening the window. A 10-
foot power cord is supplied for connection to the power source. The power cable incorporates
a fuse holder with a 1 amp fuse.
5.6 Microphone Adapter Cable, MACB-xx & LMACB-xx
The MACB should be located close to the radio or the radio control head, usually 11 inches
away. Remove the hand microphone from the radio/control head. Attach the MACB to the
radio/control head and plug the hand mic back into the MACB. Additional instructions on
connecting your specific MACB will be packed with that device. Position all cables to prevent
interference with normal operation prior to finalizing the MACB location. Some radios will not
have receive audio on the hand mic port, in these cases a single flying lead from the MACB
needs to be connected to the speaker-high-lead of the external speaker connections for the
radio. If you cannot identify the speaker-high lead connect the MACB lead to either of the two
speaker leads. If the audio level is too low, connect to the remaining lead, this should be the
speaker-high lead and give you a good level of receive audio. You cannot damage the radio
by this procedure. On many radios you will be able to connect to either external speaker lead
with the same result. In some cases mating connectors to the original hand mic connector are
not available for installation in the MACB. In such cases a generic connector is provided with
