3. Reconnect the tractor's idler spring.
IMPORTANT: Before proceeding, check adjustment of
mule drive belt, scraper blade, discharge chute cable,
clevis on lift tube and oil level in auger gear case (See
Maintenance and Service and Adjustments).
REMOVE ATTACHMENT
WARNING: Raise attachment, stop engine,
remove key, wait for all moving parts to stop
and remove all spark plug wires before
removing attachment from tractor.
1. Move rollers to lower studs on chute channel.
CAUTION: With gas springs removed force
on lift lever will be much greater. Use care
when lowering attachment.
2. Raise the Sno-Thro and disconnect gas springs
from the housing channel. Lower the front of
Sno-Thro housing to ground.
CAUTION: Stored energy in spring can cause
injury.
3. Disconnect main idler spring from tractor frame
and remove main drive belt from electric clutch
and drive pulley.
4. Remove control bracket support from tractor main
frame.
5. Pull out positive lock pins from each side of pivot
frame. Lower front of Sno-Thro.
6. Pull out latch pins from each side of carriage
frame. Lower carriage frame.
7. Remove rear hanger brackets from the tractor
frame. They may interfere with the mower deck
linkage.
NOTE: Place all hardware in their respective positions,
so that they will be readily available when attachment is
installed next season.
CONTROLS AND FEATURES
Safety Interlock System
DANGER: Failure of interlock, together with
improper operation of unit, could result in
severe personal injury.
Check the safety interlock system to make sure that it
functions properly. With operator on seat, tractor must
not start unless speed selector is in neutral (N),
brake/clutch pedal is depressed and PTO is
disengaged (Off). Engine MUST stop if operator leaves
seat when speed selector is in any drive position,
parking brake is not set or PTO is engaged (On). Refer
to Service Manual or see your Ariens Dealer for
adjustment or correction of improper interlock function.
Lift Lever
Push lever forward to lower the Sno-Thro for operating,
parking or transporting the unit. Pull the lever back to
raise and lock the Sno-Thro when traveling across
work areas.
IMPORTANT: Sno-Thro housing must lock in raised
position. Adjust lift lever by turning clevis rod if housing
does not lock in raised position. Refer to Lift Lever
section of Service and Adjustments.
Runners
Check and adjust runners (see Service and
Adjustments). Allow 1/8" (3mm) between scraper blade
and hard, smooth surface(s). Allow 1-1/4" (30mm)
between scraper blade and uneven surface(s).
Chute Deflector
Turn knob to unlock chute deflector control. Push
deflector handle forward or down to throw snow lower.
Pull deflector handle up or to the rear to throw snow
higher. Turn knob to lock position.
Discharge Chute
DANGER: DO NOT put hands or feet near
rotating parts. Keep clear of discharge
opening at all times.
Push chute crank forward to unlock. Turn crank to
desired discharge direction. Pull crank back to lock
discharge chute in position.
PRE-START
Refer to tractor Owner's Manual for tractor pre-starting
and operation.
Lower Sno-Thro attachment before starting engine.
STARTING AND SHUT OFF
Refer to tractor Owner's/Operator Manual for tractor
starting and shut off.
IMPORTANT: Make sure impeller is not frozen.
Engage attachment with engine running at part throttle.
If belts squeal, the impeller is frozen. Move unit to a
heated area to thaw.
1. With engine running, set engine speed at 1/3
throttle.
2. Engage PTO.
