Misalignment

To avoid or minimize misalignment, you are recommended to use a compensating coupling,
as shown in the following figure:
You are recommended not to couple the motor directly or rigidly to an output transmission
shaft that has its own bearings.
However, if a rigid coupling is absolutely necessary for mechanical design reasons,
misalignment deviations must be avoided. In this case, be sure to check the deviations
carefully by means of the appropriate measurements.
Vertical and horizontal alignment
To compensate for any radial offset at the coupling and to horizontally adjust the motor with
respect to the driven load, perform the following operations:
• Place shims under the motor feet to position the motor vertically and to prevent the stress
in the machine. Keep the number of shims as small as possible by using a few thicker
shims instead of several thinner ones.
• For horizontal positioning, push the motor sideways on the foundation while remaining
the axial position unchanged.
• When positioning the motor, ensure that the axial gaps around the coupling are uniform.
In this case, the alignment accuracies of the driven load and coupling must be taken into
consideration.
