CLUTCH
Bearing replacement – needle bearings
A clutch drum with needle bearings has been the standard design on
Husqvarna petrol-powered cutters for a long time. The needle bearing is
lubricated through a channel in the crankshaft from the crankcase.
Tools
Replacing the needle bearing is most easily done by using a hydraulic press.
The bearings can also be replaced using a screw vice.
You will need the following to remove the bearing:
– socket 27 mm/1-1/8 in.
– M8 bolt, about 4 in./100 mm and nut
– washer, external diameter slightly less than 19 mm/.7 in.
Whatever the method, the belt pulley centre is supported with a socket to avoid
deformation of the clutch drum.

Dismantling
1. Fix the screw in a vice and put the
support socket in place.
2. Install the clutch drum. Add the small
washer and fit the nut.
3. Press out the clutch bearing by
screwing it down in the socket.
Assembly
1. Support the clutch drum with the
socket. Put the bearing in place on the
opposite side. Push the bearing all the
way flush to the belt pulley.
2. The bearing must be pressed in further
about .1 in./3 mm for the spacer socket.
Put the spacer in place and press it in
until the flange reaches the bottom of
the belt pulley.
