Return spring
WARNING
Handling of springs of this type means a
high risk for eye and hand injuries,
especially when dismantling a broken
spring!
Always wear safety goggles and gloves
when handling the starter's return spring.
Dismantling
1. Remove the centre screw.
2. Lift off the cable pulley.
3. Carefully lift up the plate above the
spring with a screwdriver. If the spring is
assumed to be broken, you should put a
cloth over the plate to dampen the
spring motion if it pops out of the
spring housing.
4. The return spring in the spring
housing.
5. New return spring supplied in a
holder to facilitate assembly. Note that
the holder has three slots used for
assembly.
6. Place the spring with holder above the
spring housing and fit so that the loop
fits in the bracket in the spring housing.
Press the spring down using a screw -
driver all around at the three slots – a
little at a time. It is important that the
screwdriver is applied so that the spring's
outer layer is pressed down.
7. Readjust the position of the spring by
pressing the outer layer of the spring
down completely to the bottom of the
spring housing.
8. Correctly fitted return spring.
Cleaning
Never take an unbroken spring out of
the housing. If the spring is dirty, it can
be adequately blown clean with com-
pressed air. Then apply some light oil to
the spring.
