3.2.4.9.1 Understanding the Range & Bearing Tool
The Range and Bearing tool includes boat range and bearing as well as swath range and bearing.
TIP:
In keeping with the seafaring standard, port is red and starboard is green.
The boat's bearing
in the Range and
Bearing Window
Swath Range and Bearing: This is represented as a red (port) or green (starboard) arrow. Instead
of detailing the boat's range and bearing to the target, this instead shows the swath's range and
bearing to the target.
The Swath distance shows the gap from the target to the boat and where it will be on the
SONAR's swath .
With Layback
(Swath based on
the towfish)
Creating a Layback Event will also add a Layback event to the waterfall if
Data Events is turned on.
Boat Range & Bearing: The Boat's Range and Bearing is the center circle. The
red line is the target. The boat's range and bearing can be used to direct the
boat directly over the target. This can be useful in putting the boat right above
a target so that divers, etc, can have easy access to the target.
This also includes the name of the waypoint or marker, the distance directly from
the boat to the waypoint, the degrees off based on the boat, and the estimated
time of arrival at the current SOG.
The Range and Bearing tool is used to help the
boat's driver stay on track to locate a waypoint or
marker and to return to it again.
