ThenewB46TUengineusesasolenoidvalveinjectorHDEV6byBosch.Duetothemorestringent
exhaustgasemissionregulationsrequiredtomeettheexhaustemissionstandards,technicalchanges
wereagainmadetothesolenoidvalveinjectors.Sortedfuelinjectorsareused.Thismeansthatthey
arehandselectedatthefactoryandtestedfortheleastamountoffuelleakage.
ThesolenoidvalveinjectorsHDEV5andHDEV5EVOareusedintheB46engine.Whilekeepingthe
fuelsystempressureof200 bar(2900psi)(HDEV5toHDEV5EVO),areductioninpollutantemission
wasachievedbychangingtheinjectionpatternandvolumetricdistribution.
Duetothefuelsystempressureincreasefrom200 bar(2900psi)to350 bar(5076psi),thesolenoid
valveinjectorsHEDV6wereoptimizedusingsuitablematerialsandcoatings.Theinjectionpatternand
volumetricdistributionhavenotchangedcomparedwiththeHDEV5EVO.
Therepairinstructionsthatarecurrentlyvalidmustbecarefullyfollowedwhenremovingand
installingtheinjectorsinService.Anexcessiverotationalangleattheinjectorshank,andexcessive
tensileandcompressionforcesduringremovalandinstallationcanleadtodamageandthereforeleaks
inthefuelsystem.
