Configuring a Static IP Route

Overview
A static IP route is a description of a path to an IP subnet whose net-
work address is not known to the FRITZ!Box.
Application Example
Static IP routes are intended for the following situation:
• In the FRITZ!Box network there is a subnet whose network address
• The network devices in the subnet are to communicate with the net-
• Only relevant for IPv4: The router that spans the subnet does not do
How Static IP Routes Work
IP packets whose IP destination addresses are unknown are forward-
ed to the internet by default. In the application described above, be-
cause the FRITZ!Box does not know the destination addresses that be-
long to the subnet, it forwards the packet to the internet. To prevent
this from happening, the FRITZ!Box must know the network address of
the subnet and the IP address of the interface to the subnet. These two
addresses are required to configure a static route. Static IP routes are
registered in the routing table.
