Chute rotating gears (joy stick)

IMPORTANT: The chute ring gear, the double idler gear and the pinion gear are all timed to each other. If any
of these parts need to be removed, they must all be removed and re-assembled in a specific
order to maintain the chute timing.
To remove/replace the chute rotating gears:
1.
Remove the upper engine cover by following the
procedures described in Chapter 2: Engines.
2.
Remove the pinion gear mounting bracket and the
pinion gear using a 3/8" wrench. See Figure 4.14.
3.
Remove the bolt that passes through the ring gear
retaining bracket, the governor shield and the
engine block using a pair of 7/16" wrenches.
NOTE: There is a thick washer in between the ring
gear retaining bracket and the governor
shield. See Figure 4.15.
NOTE: Starting with the 2011, the 221 series will no
longer be built with this nut, bolt and washer.
