Q-SYS Channel Assignments
Audio channels are mapped to Q-SYS channels as shown in the following table. These assignments cannot be modified in the CMS but
can be routed as needed in the core using Q-SYS Designer.
DTS:X Settings
The minimum channel configuration supported for DTS:X is 15.1 and the maximum number of channels supported is 64. DTS:X
configurations that require more than 16 channels require an additional software license (see "CMS-5000 System Licenses" on
page 7)
In order to render DTS:X, you must import a VBAP file that describes the speaker configuration of your theater. The contents of the VBAP
file can be imported, viewed and modified in the CMS User Interface. You must ensure any modifications made conform to the VBAP file
configuration requirements. If the VBAP file is invalid, rendered audio may not play correctly or at all. You may also export the file for
use in another system.
DTS:X VBAP Generator
The VBAP configuration file describes speaker placement within your auditorium in order to correctly render sound from a DTS:X or IAB
soundtrack. Please contact QSC Support or DTS support for help in generating the VBAP configuration file. Detailed measurements of
the Auditorium shape, speaker locations and heights are required to correctly generate this configuration. Remember to include floor
slope and location as well as ceiling height at several locations when measuring the room.
The VBAP file will indicate speaker locations and map them to an output channel number. The output audio track targeting these
speakers will be output in order as described in the tables above. URI exceptions indicating what speakers are part of the bed channel
configuration (the main 5.1/7.1 etc speaker configuration) will be indicated in the VBAP configuration files. Aligning these outputs to
match the channels of standard playback is recommended for reverse compatability with non DTS:X or IAB content.
