Removing Drives From the Media Base

Save and close any open files, and exit any open programs.

Undock the computer.

Slide the drive latch release toward the center of the media base, and

pull the drive out of the bay.
Dock the computer. See "Docking Your Computer."

Installing Drives in the Media Base

Save and close any open files, and exit any open programs.

If you are replacing a drive, undock the computer to remove the

existing drive (see "Removing Drives From the Media Base").
To install an optical drive, insert the drive into the left bay on the

media base.
To install a floppy drive, insert the drive into the right bay on the media
base.
Dock the computer. See "Docking Your Computer."

The operating system recognizes the new drive.
Connecting and Disconnecting
External Drives
To connect an external drive such as a CD, CD-RW, or DVD/CD-RW
drive while the computer is off, connect the drive cable to the 1394
connector on the media base.
To disconnect an external drive while the computer is off, remove the
drive cable from the 1394 connector.
To connect and disconnect drives while the computer is running, see
"Swapping External Drives While the Computer Is Running."
NOTICE: To prevent damage to external drives, place them in a safe, dry
place when they are not connected to the computer. Avoid pressing down on
them or placing heavy objects on top of them.
