Test Your Setup

Before we start creating our own presets, lets make sure the module is setup properly by playing back some content from a
preset that comes with the module and triggering playback through external inputs.

Use the Touchscreen to Trigger a Cell

The bitbox module loads a preset on startup. You can trigger playback of a cell by touching a cell in the grid that has a WAV
file name displayed. You will see a blue bar graph appear below the cell during playback. You will hear the WAV file played
back through the audio output selected for that cell. If you don't hear anything, try listening on both OUT1 and OUT2, as
these are the default outputs for bitbox.

Trigger a Cell via Control Voltage Signal

You can use an external signal to trigger the playback of a Cell. Plug a trigger source into one of the CV Trigger jacks. The
CV Trigger jacks are mapped to the cells on the touchscreen. The cell that corresponds to the used CV Trigger jack will
now be triggered when the CV Trigger input receives a high signal of around 5V. Depending on the Launch Mode selected
for the cell, you may need to send another CV Trigger to stop playback of the cell.

Trigger a Cell via MIDI Input

You can use a MIDI input to trigger playback of a cell. Plug a MIDI controller source into
the MIDI input jack, and configure the MIDI device to use the GlobalMIDI channel
selected in Settings. (See Global Module Settings above to learn how to set the
GlobalMIDI channel.)Now you can use the MIDI device to trigger cells. MIDI inputs
for notes 36 to 51 map to the clips in the grid as shown in the diagram on the right. The
Scene Triggers for EXT1 through EXT4 are assigned notes 55 to 52 for use as Scene
Triggers and Recording triggers. However, these MIDI mappings for notes 52 to 55 do
not work with modulation.
Note:
The MIDI input uses a Tip Ring Sleeve (TRS) connection compatible with the Arturia BeatStep Pro. Be sure to use a
TRS cable and not a TS cable. Read the blog post Mini TRS Jacks for MIDI Connections Compatibility
Guide on our website at
details about MIDI TRS cable compatibility and when you need to use a MIDI Adapter.
Bitbox by default responds to MIDI inputs on MIDI Channel 10, which is the default channel for the drum part on the
BeatStep Pro. You can change this in the Global Module Settings as described above.
Bitbox can also use MIDI input to modulate parameters. See Use Modulation to Control Playback below.
Bitbox can also use MIDI inputs on other channels to trigger playback of slices within a Slicer cell. See Use MIDI to
Trigger Slice Playback below for more information.
The MIDI parameter for a cell can be used to configure a cell to be triggered by a MIDI channel other than the
GlobalMIDI channel.
