VCA8613EVM The VCA8613EVM is designed to assist with evaluating the performance of the VCA8613 variable gain amplifier. Topic Page Description ........... . .
Windows2000 and its operation has been verified with Windows XP, Windows2000, and Windows98. Direct-Control mode uses external control and data signals to control the functions of the VCA8613. The VCA8613EVM has the following features: Easy testing of the VCA8613 Single-ended input...
Page 9
TGC Outputs The differential TGC outputs are buffered by op amps (OPA690) in a differen- tial configuration with a differential gain of 1. When testing the VCA8613EVM, outputs J28 through J35 (TGC outputs) must be terminated into 50Ω loads such as those of a spectrum analyzer. This termination will result in the proper matching for the output amplifiers, and no loss will have to be taken into ac- count.
PC software. Modes of Operation There are three modes of operation for the VCA8613EVM: Stand-Alone, PC- Control, and Direct-Control. The first two modes are accessed by using the S1 switches and the S2 pushbutton. S2 is used as the reset button to make pro- gram changes on the microcontroller.

When the S1 switches are set to PC-Control mode, the VCA8613 is controlled by the software running on a PC. At this point, the serial cable included with the VCA8613EVM must be connected to the PC serial port. The program then sets the proper baud rate for communication with the VCA8613EVM.

VCA8613EVM Full-Access Software The main program window allows the user to choose the VCA8613 mode of operation. TGC Mode or CW Mode must be selected before any of the corre- sponding options can be selected, including the Chip Power option. The Chip Power option is set by default to the chip being powered up.

VCA8613EVM Full-Access Software When the VCA8613EVM is controlled by the software, any input to the VCA8613 can be routed to any of the CW outputs via the CW Options selec- tions. Each input channel is listed with a pull-down menu to select any of the ten available outputs (CW0 to CW9) or the Overflow option, which effectively disables the channel.
