ECOUNIT 1C
A safety valve must be fitted upstream of the exchanger, on the cold water feed pipe.
The connection pipe between the exchanger and safety valve must absolutely not be shut off, as damage to the
exchanger could occur due to overpressure.
Pay attention when installing the safety valve (Fig.2-pos. A); do not force once fitted and do not tamper with it.
The safety valve has a nominal setting of 8 bar.
Some dripping from the safety valve is normal during the heating stage; therefore it is advisable to connect it
to a drain trap.
In case of a mains pressure near the valve setting values, a suitable pressure reducer (Fig.2-pos. E) must be
fitted as far away as possible from the unit.
If the system has a pressure reducer, for the reason described above, and/or a check valve, it is necessary
to install an expansion tank (Fig.2-pos. D) having a capacity of not less than 5% the nominal capacity of each
heating unit.
Do not install a check valve between the safety valve and the expansion tank.
In general, to safeguard the unit and the system, it is advisable to install the expansion tank with the characteristics
defined above.
Fill the special expansion tank diaphragm chamber according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Before connecting the unit to the system, it must be completely filled with water, proceeding as follows:
Open the cold water feed cock;
Open a hot water tap (e.g. bath, sink, etc.) to vent the air and wait for a constant flow of water from all the
hot water taps.
Check for any leaks in the various plumbing connections.
In the presence of hard water with hardness value >20°TH (where 1°TH=French degree=10mg CaCo3/l) it is
advisable to install specific products in order to prevent excessive scale.
Some devices are comparable to non-return valves, therefore their use requires the installation of a suitable
expansion tank (see fig. 2).
The unit is arranged for connection to a recirculation pipe (Z): if fitted, this pipe must be insulated.
For recirculation (Z) it is necessary to install a pump equipped with an operation timer or a minimum contact
thermostat, to obtain its activation on cooling of the recirculation water.
If the union is not used, fit a suitable plug.
The inlet and outlet pipes must be connected to the pre-arranged points on the exchanger.

3. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

a) Start-up
After installation, fill the exchanger with water for domestic hot water use and for heating, proceeding as
follows:
Carry out filling of water for heating and vent the system;
Carry out filling of water for domestic hot water use by means of the cold water inlet and vent by opening a
hot water drawing point.
Install the thermostatic device in the special place on the hot water tank (see fig 1)
Start the boiler.
b) Filling the coil
The unit's exchange coil is connected to the boiler circuit, therefore to guarantee the circulation of fluid inside
it make sure the pressure of the water inside the boiler is sufficient for its correct operation.
NB: For correct boiler operation, refer to the relevant instructions.
c) Filling the unit
To fill the unit, the system must be provided with a cock for filling the DHW circuit from the water system.
Open the exchanger filling cock (referred to above) and vent the circuit by opening a drawing point.
d) Emptying the unit
To carry out emptying, close the cock for filling from the water system, connect a hose to the drain union and
place the other end in an area provided with an external drain.
Open a drawing point and let the water run, then open the drain union and complete the emptying.
