b. Verify that no one is entering commands from the alternate SDMC.
c. Repeat step 1 on page 29 through 6 on page 29.
7. If the problem persists, contact your next level of support or your hardware service provider.

Correcting a Recovery state for a server

The Recovery state can occur when the save area in the service processor assembly is not synchronized
with the IBM Systems Director Management Console (SDMC) database.
To recover from the Recovery state, perform the following steps:
1. Recover partition data.
2. If the problem is not resolved after recovering profile data, select one of the following choices:
v If the state remains in Recovery, you can try again recovering the partition data. If it fails a second
time, follow the problem determination procedure for any reference codes you receive.
v If the state changed to Incomplete, see "Correcting an Incomplete state for a server" on page 29.
v If the state changed to No Connection, see "Correcting a Not Available state for a server" on page 28.
v If the problem persists, contact your next level of support or your hardware service provider.

Correcting an Error state for a server

The Error operating state (detailed state shows as Unknown) automatically generates a call to the service
support center if the automatic call support function is enabled and IBM Systems Director Management
Console (SDMC) creates a serviceable event to represent the error.
If the automatic call support function is not enabled, contact your next level of support or your hardware
service provider.

Correcting a Failed Authentication or Not Available state for a server

The Not Available operating state (detailed state shows as Unknown) can occur when the IBM Systems
Director Management Console (SDMC) access password for the server is not valid.
Perform the following procedure to correct a Not Available operating state on your SDMC.
Do you have an SDMC access password?
v Yes: Enter the SDMC access password and choose from the following options:
– If the server goes to Started, Stopped, or Standby, the authentication was successful. This step ends
the procedure.
– If the server goes to Unknown, Incomplete, or Recovery detailed state, see "Troubleshooting the
managed servers" on page 28.
v No: Contact the next level of support or the hardware service provider.

Resetting the service processor

Use this procedure to reset the service processor.
Note: Use this procedure only under the direction of your next level of support or your hardware service
provider. During this procedure, you power off the system, remove and reapply ac power.
1. Inform anyone using the server that it will be shut down.
2. Stop all applications that are running on the server.
3. Stop the operating system and server by choosing from the following options:
v If you have an SDMC, shut down all virtual servers and the server. For instructions, see "Powering
on and off the Systems Director Management Console and system" on page 14. Then continue with
step 6 on page 31.
