8 Maintenance

WARNING:
ALL STEPS DESCRIBED BELOW SHOULD ONLY BE TAKEN
IN A DUST FREE ENVIRONMENT. OTHERWISE, DUST PAR-
TICLES MAY GET INSIDE THE OPTICS AND CAUSE EI-
THER DARK OR BRIGHT SPOTS ON THE LEED SCREEN.

8.1 Cleaning Grids

The user should have the following tools before attempting to clean the grids:
 dust-free environment—a positive pressure blower with HEPA filter, a laminar
flow clean bench, or a clean room
 fine and soft cleaning brush
 a pair of pliers or a vise grip
 tweezers or small pliers
 flat screwdriver (2–4 mm)
 Allen key 5/32" or 4 mm
Before proceeding, make sure the optics is standing upright.
The following steps will help you disassemble the optics, remove the grids, and put it
back together after cleaning (consult an image below):
1. Undo #0-80 screws on both sides of mu-metal.
2. Carefully remove the cylindrical mu-metal shielding by pulling it up.
3. Unscrew three (or four—BDL800)
nuts at the top mu-metal and remove
it.
4. Remember the order of grids and ce-
ramic stand-offs. To align grids cor-
rectly, there are line and number
mark on the side of each grid.
5. Remove the grids one by one and put
them into a clean container and
clean them.
6. Pull up the screen and check the
phosphor coating.
