    1. Introduction The Fast Ethernet hub KF-4M provides four Fast Ethernet Twisted- pair (TP) ports. Each port complies with 100BASE-TX standard and is used for connecting to a 100BASE-TX device such as a 100BASE- TX hub or a computer equipped with a 100BASE-TX card. The hub also provides complete diagnostic LED indicators to indicate the ac- tivity status of the hub and network ports.

    2. Installation Unpacking Check to see that you have everything before you start the installation. • Installation guide • The hub unit • One AC power adapter for the hub Installation The hub can be placed on a desktop as a stand-alone unit. It also can be mounted on a magnetic-sensitive metal surface with its rubber magnet stand on the hub's bottom.

Making End Node Connection The "X" type jacks can be used for connecting to end nodes such as computers. A category 5 2-pair straight-through UTP cable must be used for such connections. The maximum distance between the hub and computer is 100 meters. See the following figure: Connecting to computers Making Hub-to-Hub Connection For making a hub-to-hub connection, select one "X"...
  • Page 12 To make a hub-to-hub connection, the following rules must be fol- lowed: 1. The other hub which is connected to KF-4M must comply with IEEE 802.3u Class II repeater specifications. 2. The cable used for the hub-to-hub connection must be category 5 UTP cable and the maximum distance is 5 meters.
