1.2 Dynamic DNS

The free DynDNS dynamic DNS (Domain Name System) service allows users to have a subdomain
that points to a device connected to the internet with regularly-changing IP addresses. An update
client installed on the user's computer, or built into a networked device such as a router or webcam,
generally keeps the hostname up to date with its current IP address.
The gateway regularly updates the associated IP address of a user defined name on the DynDNS
server (figure 2). With this procedure the gateway can be accessed by either its IP address (which is
normally not known) or the name (figure 3).
