If equipped the choke knob, pull out it
when the engine is cold. After the engine
starts, gradually return the choke knob to
its home position as the engine warms
up.

Insert the knotted end of the emergency
starter rope into the notch in the flywheel
rotor and wind the rope several turns
around the flywheel clockwise.
7.
Give a strong pull straight out to crank
and start the engine. Repeat if neces-
sary.

Emergency engine operation

If the battery voltage is low or in the unlikely
event of an ignition system malfunction, the
engine speed may become erratic or the en-
gine may stop. In such a situation, follow the
procedure below.

Disconnect the yellow cord (emergency cir-
cuit) of the CDI unit.
Run the engine at low speed and return to
port. NOTICE: Follow this procedure only
in an emergency and just long enough to
return to port for repairs.

Treatment of submerged motor

If the outboard motor is submerged, immedi-
ately take it to a Yamaha dealer. Otherwise
some corrosion may begin almost immedi-
ately. NOTICE: Do not attempt to run the
outboard motor until it has been com-
pletely inspected.
