20 Getting started – Turning on the radio

Turning on the radio

When you first receive your BlackBerry Handheld, the radio will be
turned off. You must turn on the radio before you can send and
receive messages.

the screen above) to an airplane, which indicates

There should be two messages in your Messages list when you first
receive your BlackBerry Handheld. These are Welcome messages
that introduce you to your handheld and some basic features. If the
Welcome messages do not appear in your Messages list, please

Turning off the radio

It is extremely important that you turn off your handheld's radio
when on an airplane, in a hospital, or any time when it may
interfere with other radio transmissions and frequencies.
