4.3 Lubricant leaks from the gear unit.
Lubricant leaks from the rotary gear unit.
4.3.1
The fault is indicated with leaks that develop on the sealing ring of the gear
unit output shaft. The oil leak wets the kelly bar and leaks out of the mast
base. Continuing to operate in these conditions leads to irreversible damage
to the gear unit due to absence of lubricant and possible increase of internal
play. It is also forbidden to dispose of the lubricant in the environment.
To service the gear unit one must disassemble it with the engine:
• wear work gloves;
• position the mast in the transport configuration;
• switch the engine off;
• make sure that the hydraulic oil is at room temperature;
• secure the engine-gear unit to a hoisting system able to ensure stability
even when all fixing bolts have been removed (weight about 90 kg.);
• loosen the fittings of the oil supply pipes (provide a suitable container to
collect the leaking oil);
• fully detach the oil supply pipes, protecting the fittings (ends) from
contacts which may dirty them and let impurities circulate during
reassembly;
• put the unit on the ground;
• put the serviced unit into its seat carefully, exactly in the same position;
• tighten the fixing bolts;
• connect the oil connection pipes;
• top-up the lubrication oil;
• test the system and check circuits seal.
