ASHFORD TRADITIONAL SINGLE OR DOUBLE DRIVE
Tools Required:
Hammer, slot screwdriver, candlewax, Ashford Spinning Wheel Oil.
Finishing the Wood:
We recommend the wood surfaces be sealed before assembly. This protects the kiln dried wood from
climatic changes and enhances its beauty. Use either the Ashford Wax Finish or the same finish as
the rest of your wheel.
Assembly Sequence:
Please read these instructions right through before commencing.
1. Depending on the age of your wheel, remove from the con rod end of the crank either:
a) the split pin with a pair of pliers
b) the O-ring with a pin or needle
c) the E-clip with a small screwdriver
Take off old con rod from the crank or
d) snap con rod off crank
2. Remove the hub pin. - Use the nail provided and a hammer. Note: on earlier models the hub pin is in the middle of the hub.
Avoid damaging the spokes. Place a flat steel object such as pliers or a spanner over the nail and hammer it.
3. Remove the crank from the wheel.
On old spinning wheels use a slot screwdriver to prise the bent 1/8" diameter hub pin out.
4. Remove the wheel from the frame. Clean the bearings and wheel. Remove any fibres that may have collected around the
crank.
5. Replace the wheel into position. Note: the hub pin is on the same side as the con rods.
6. Push the double treadle crank (with the inner con rod attached) through the wheel supports and hub. There are two holes in
the crank. One will fit your wheel.
7. Place the nail down the hub pin slot and into the hole in the crank. Remove the nail and replace it with the hub pin.
