6. MENU OPERATION
7.1.1 Data compression
Digital radio makes use of the effects of human hearing. The human ear
does not perceive sounds below a certain minimum volume. Data below
the so-called resting hearing threshold can therefore be filtered out.
This is possible because the relative volume to other units is stored in a
digital data stream for each data unit. In a single sound signal, at a cer-
tain threshold value, the quieter components are superimposed by the
louder components. All sound information in a piece of music that falls
below the so-called listening threshold can be filtered out of the signal
E
to be transmitted. This leads to a reduction of the data stream to be
transmitted, without any noticeable sound difference for the listener (HE
AAC v2 -method as supplementary coding method for DAB+).
7.1.2 Audio stream
Audio streams in Digital Radio are continuous data streams that
contain MPEG 1 Audio Layer 2 frames and thus represent acoustic
information. This allows familiar radio programmes to be transmitted
and listened to by the receiver. Digital Radio brings you not only radio in
excellent sound quality, but also additional information. These can refer
to the current programme or be independent of it (e.g. news, weather,
traffic, tips).
7.2 DAB+ (Digital Radio) reception
>
Keep pressing the MODE button (1) until [DAB] is displayed.
When starting DAB+ for the first time, a complete station
scan is run. Make sure that the telescopic antenna is fully
extended during this process. After a search cycle is
completed, the first station in alphabetical order is played.
7.2.1 Running a complete search scan
The full scan searches for all DAB+Band III channels and finds all sta-
tions broadcast in the coverage area.
After a search cycle is completed, the first station in alphabetical order
is played.
