Product description

3.1 MR-J5-A servo amplifier
3.1.1 Function description
● For control, the MR-J5-A servo amplifier has two analog inputs and a pulse
train input. The command signal is converted into a proportional electrical
current to drive the servo motor. Possible modes of the MR-J5-A are torque,
speed or position control.
● The MR-J5-A servo amplifier has an integrated Safe Torque Off (STO) func-
tion. The STO function de-energises safely the motor without disconnect-
ing the servo amplifier galvanically from the input power supply.
● A load side encoder can be used for reading a position feedback signal in
order to realise full closed position feedback. By parameter setting the con-
trol modes
– fully closed loop control
– semi closed loop control
– dual feedback control
can be selected. For detailed information about configuration and set-up
of these control functions refer to the Instruction manual of the servo
amplifier MR-J5-A.

Mounting/Dismantling
E
CAUTION
● The equipment must be installed in the specified direction. Otherwise,
a fault may occur.
● Leave specified clearances between the servo amplifier and control
box inside walls or other equipment.
● Mount the servo amplifier on a cabinet which meets IP54 in the correct
vertical direction to maintain pollution degree 2.
● Do not install servo amplifier and servo motor which has been dam-
aged or has any parts missing.
● Do not block the intake/exhaust port of servo amplifier and servo mo-
tor which has a cooling fan.
● When using heat generating equipment such as the regenerative op-
tion, install them with full consideration of heat generation so that the
servo amplifier is not affected.
● Install the servo amplifier on a perpendicular wall in the correct verti-
cal direction.
● When installing the unit in a control box, prevent drill chips and wire
fragments from entering the servo amplifier.
● Prevent oil, water, metallic dust, etc. from entering the servo amplifier
through openings in the control box or a cooling fan installed on the
ceiling.
● When installing the control box in a place where there are much toxic
gas, dirt and dust, conduct an air purge (force clean air into the control
box from outside to make the internal pressure higher than the exter-
nal pressure) to prevent such materials from entering the control box.
● Fix the MR-J5-A servo amplifier by using fixing screws on the upper
and lower fixing holes of the devices.

Electrical Installation and Wiring

5.1 Safety informations
P
DANGER
● Cut off all phases of the power source externally before starting the in-
stallation or wiring work, thus avoiding electric shock or damages to
the product.
● Before wiring, turn off the power and wait for 15 minutes or more until
the charge lamp turns off. Then, confirm that the voltage between P(+)
and N(–) is safe with a voltage tester and others. Otherwise, an electric
shock may occur. In addition, always confirm from the front of the ser-
vo amplifier whether the charge lamp is off or not.
● Ground the servo amplifier and the servo motor securely.
E
CAUTION
● Use the servo amplifier in the environment within the general specifi-
cations described in the instruction manual of the servo amplifier.
Never use the product in areas with dust, oily smoke, conductive dusts,
corrosive or flammable gas, vibrations or impacts, or expose it to high
temperature, condensation, or wind and rain. If the product is used in
such a place described above, electrical shock, fire, malfunction, dam-
age, or deterioration may be caused.
● When drilling screw holes or wiring, cutting chips or wire chips should
not enter ventilation slits. Such an accident may cause fire, failure or
malfunction.
● Do not touch the conductive parts of the product directly.
● While power is on or for some time after power-off, do not touch the
servo amplifier, the servo motor or the regenerative brake option as
they are hot and you may get burnt.
● The MELSERVO MR-J5-A servo amplifier fulfils the EMC requirements
in accordance with the product standard EN61800, Adjustable speed
electrical power drive systems, Part3: EMC.
● Mounting in accordance with EN 50274
● Electrical installation in accordance with EN 60204-1
● The voltage supply of the device must be capable of buffering brief
mains voltage failures of 20 ms as specified in EN 60204-1.
● Power supply
This servo amplifier can be supplied from star-connected supply with
grounded neutral point of overvoltage category III set forth in IEC/EN 60664-1.
However, when you use the neutral point for single phase supply, a rein-
forced insulating transformer is required in the power input section. For
the interface power supply, use an external 24 V DC power supply with
reinforced insulation on I/O terminals.
● Grounding
To prevent an electric shock, always connect the protective earth (PE) ter-
minal (marked with
) of the servo amplifier to the protective earth (PE) of
the cabinet. Do not connect two grounding cables to the same protective
earth (PE) terminal. Always connect cables to the terminals one-to-one. If
using a leakage circuit breaker, always ground the protective earth (PE) ter-
minal of the servo amplifier to prevent an electric shock. Only an RCD (leak-
age current breaker) of type B can be used for the power supply side of the
product.

P3 and P4 are connected as a factory setting. If using a power factor improving DC
reactor and a simple converter, remove the short bar between P3 and P4, and
then connect the reactor and converter. Additionally, the power factor improving
DC reactor and a power factor improving AC reactor cannot be used together.
Connect P+ and D terminals. P+ and D are connected as a factory setting. If using
a regenerative option, refer to the following.
Option cables are recommended for servo motor power cables and encoder
cables. Refer to the following for selecting the cables.
If ALM (Malfunction) output is disabled with a servo parameter, configure a power
circuit which switches off a magnetic contactor after detection of alarm occur-
rence on the controller side.
For connecting the servo motor power wires, refer to the Rotary Servo Motor
User's Manual (HK series)
Use the magnetic contactor with an operation delay time (interval between cur-
rent being applied to the coil until closure of contacts) of 80 ms or less. Bus volt-
age may drop depending on the main circuit voltage and operation pattern,
causing a dynamic brake deceleration during a forced stop deceleration. If
dynamic brake deceleration is not required, delay the time to turn off the mag-
netic contactor.
If wires used for L11 and L21 are thinner than wires used for L1, L2, and L3, use a
molded-case circuit breaker.
Connecting a servo motor of the wrong axis to U, V, W, or CN2 of the servo ampli-
fier may cause a malfunction.
For 1-phase 200 V AC to 240 V AC, connect the power supply to L1 and L3. Leave
L2 open.
If operating the on switch and off switch of the main circuit power supply with a
DC power supply, do not share the 24 V DC power supply for interface with the
magnetic contactor. Use the power supply designed exclusively for the magnetic
contactor.
Operating the on switch and off switch with the DC power supply meets IEC/EN
60204-1 requirements. Also, change the configuration of the part inside the dot-
ted line as follows.
