STIHL mesh visors and STIHL plastic visors
STIHL mesh visors and STIHL plastic visors have been developed for Safe 1,
Safe 2 and Safe 3.
STIHL mesh visors are tested in compliance with EN 1731 in one or several
categories in compliance with European Directive 89 / 686 / EEC.
STIHL plastic visors are tested in compliance with EN 166 in one or several
categories in compliance with European Directive 89 / 686 / EEC.
The level of protection provided is indicated by a marking on the visor and carrier.
In the event of a combination of products with different markings, the lowest safety
class marking applies.
Please refer to Table
A at the end of this Instruction Manual for an explanation
of the level of protection.
Read this Instruction Manual through carefully and keep all product instructions and
information in a safe place.
Before each use, check that the visor is in perfect condition (e.g. optical condition).
Discard the visor immediately if it is damaged or has been modified.
Modifications to the visor may have a negative influence on its protective function.
For this reason do not attempt to modify the visor in any way.
Immediately discard visors that have been modified.
Avoid damaging the visor material by contact with pointed or sharp objects (saw
chain, metal tools, etc.) or with aggressive substances such as animal excrement,
acids, oil, solvents, fuel, etc.
Also avoid contact with hot objects (exhaust muffler, etc.) and other heat sources
(naked lights, heaters, etc.).
The visor material may cause allergic reactions in sensitive users if it comes into
direct contact with the skin.
No protective equipment can provide complete protection against injuries. The level
of protection depends on many different factors.
The visor is no substitute for safe working techniques. Incorrect use of a power tool
can result in accidents. It is therefore essential to observe all local standards and
ordinances as well as the safety precautions in the instruction manual of the power
tool you are using.
Eye protection in compliance with EN 166 must be worn whenever you use a
brushcutter, edger, clearing saw, blower / mistblower or cut-off saw. STIHL
recommends additionally wearing safety glasses complying with EN 166.
Mesh visor: The mesh visor provides protection against low-velocity flying particles
hitting the face from the front or side.
The mesh visor does not provide protection against splashes of molten metal, hot
particles, electric arcing, or particles thrown at medium or high speed.
Plastic visor: The plastic visor provides protection against low-velocity and medium-
velocity flying particles, dust and splashes, and molten metal droplets hitting the
face from the front or side. The plastic visor does not provide protection against
electric arcing or particles thrown at high speed.
Clean the visor regularly to ensure maximum wearing comfort. Incorrect cleaning
and care may have a negative influence on the product's protective function. Clean
and care for the visor exactly as instructed.
