The wind turbine alternator produces a 3-phase AC, which is rectified into DC up in the
nacelle of the 24V model, and rectified in the PowerCenter of the 48V model. A two (2)-
conductor wire is needed between the wind turbine and the PowerCenter controller for
the 24V model. A three (3) conductor whire is required between the wind turbine and
PowerCenter for the 48V model. The 24V model does not require a fused-disconnect
switch at the base of the tower, while the 48V model does require the disconnect switch.
The recommended wire sizes for the 24 VDC EXCEL1 wind turbine are shown in Table
2. The listed distances include the height of the tower.
Maximum Current: 60 amps
WARNING: Installing wire sizes larger than those recommended will increase the
maximum current produced by the turbine.
