DO Electrode (9551-20D/100D) Operation Manual
Thank you for purchasing a HORIBA DO electrode. Read this Operation Manual carefully before using lhe electrode.
1 Cautions during handling
Highly concentrated potassium hydroxide (KOH) is used in the internai solution of the electrode.
lf the internai solution in the electrode comes in contact with your hands or skin, wash immediately with
water. lf the internai solution comes in contact with your eyes, flush immediately with large amounts of
CAUTION
water and seek treatment by a physician.
• Do not allow the electrode to come in contact with any hard surface.
• An extremely thin membrane is stretched across the DO tip and DO responsive pari. DO not allow lhe membrane to come in contact with any
hard surface and do not exerl undue force on lhe diaphragm.
• When attaching the DO tip to the electrode body, check to make sure that lhe O-ring is attached. Attach lhe DO tip securely to lhe electrode
body.
• The electrode connector requires a high degree of insulation. Do not allow lhe connector to come in contact with water or dirty hands.
• DO tips that are no longer usable should be disposed of as industrial waste.
• The water-resistant construction of pH meters can be used in combination with this electrode to provide water-resistant construction (conform
ing to IP-67). When measuring, do not immerse lhe cap, lead or connector in lhe sample.

Connecting to pH meter
1 lnsert the electrode connector into the connector port
sleeve on the meter, after aligning with the pin. Do not insert
the connector unless it is aligned properly with the connec
tor port.
2 Press the electrode connector into the connector port on
the meter, while turning the connector to the right.
3 Slide the connector cover over the connector. Then, push
the cover in straight until it comes in light contact with the
meter case. Do not turn the cover.
4 lnsert the temperature connector into the jack on the meter.
lnsert the connector firmly, until the O-ring on the connector
can no longer be seen.

Note►►►
Be sure to attach lhe cable hook to lhe electrode strap. lf not,
lhe cable may break.

Note►►►
Do not dispose of lhe short socket that was removed. lt is
necessary when storing lhe electrode.
Note►►►
The DO tip connector has a thick pin and a thin pin. Inseri lhe
DO tip connector into lhe holder, making sure lhe thick and
thin pins are aligned correctly. Screw lhe protective cap on
firmly, until it stops. When attaching lhe DO tip to lhe elec
trode body, make sure that lhe O-ring is attached to lhe DO
tip.

Points to remember when measuring
(calibrating)
• Air calibration
• Remove any drops of liquids from lhe membrane at lhe end of
lhe DO tip, by wiping away lhe liquid with soft tissue paper or
similar material to make it dry.
• Avoid calibrating in places with extreme temperature fluctua
tion, places exposed to lhe wind or rain, and places near heat
ing equipment.
• Do not grasp lhe holder during or immediately before/after cal
ibration. (Body temperature adversely affects lhe stability of lhe
readings.)
Note►►►
Equalizing lhe temperatures of lhe DO electrode and lhe air
is important in achieving proper air-calibration. lf possible,
allow lhe DO electrode to sit in lhe open air for a shorl time
(approx. 20 minutes) prior to calibration.
• Standard solution calibration and sample
measurement
• Wash lhe electrode with tap water and dry it with filter or tissue
paper, each time prior to immersing it in lhe solution.
• When immersing lhe electrode in lhe solution, be sure that lhe
temperature sensor is completely immersed.
• Stir lhe DO electrode around in lhe solution, so that lhe temper
ature of lhe electrode becomes lhe sarne as that of lhe solu
tion.
For any question regarding this product, please contact your local agency, or inquire from the Customer Registration website
(www.horiba.co.jp/register).
• Make sure lhe membrane has no dirt or air bubbles on it.
• Measure the DO of lhe solution, making sure lhe flow speed on
lhe surface of lhe membrane is constant.

Note►►►
The electrode membrane is thin and easily torn. Place it into
solution slowly.
Note►►►
Do not cause any damage to lhe lead and electrode when
immersing lhe electrode in lhe solution.
Note►►►
Do not shake lhe electrode holding lhe lead in your hand, and
do not pull or tie lhe lead.

Maintenance
• After finishing measurement, wash lhe DO electrode well with
tap water, then keep it immersed in tap water. Leave lhe elec
trode connected to lhe pH meter.
• lf the electrode membrane is dirty, clean it by using soft cotton
gauze , using care not to scratch lhe membrane. Then, rinse

lhe membrane with tap water.
• lf an errar occurs during calibration, replace lhe DO tip.
7
Storage
• The electrode should, as a principie, be stored while remaining
connected to the meter.
• To store the electrode without lhe pH meter, follow lhe below
procedure.
