1-12. Writing the Serial Number

When replacing the HDD unit or the DEC-158 board of the unit, write the serial number in the following
procedure.
Tools/Equipment
. PS/2 keyboard
. Color display
. Display cable
Procedure
1. Refer to Section 1-10-2, and log on to service mode.

Contact your local Sony Sales Office/Service Center for the log in ID and password.
2. Input the current directory changing command "cd /usr/nsp1/nsp1service", and press the Enter key.
3. Input the serial number write command "setsnum ****", and press the Enter key.

Input the serial number labeled on the model number label of the unit in "****".
When the writing of serial number and password setting is completed, the message "passwd: all
authentication tokens updated successfully." is displayed.
4. Input command "exit", and press the Enter key to end the service mode.
5. Turn OFF the power of the unit, and reset the service mode selection switch (S802-4/DEC-158) to
OFF.
