23.3 Trouble shooting the vacuum system

Note: Be aware of hot surfaces when handling the vacuum pump.
Note: Do not enter the container, including opening the inspection hatches, when the
oxygen level is below 20.9%.
The vacuum system consists of a membrane connected with a hose to a vacuum pump. Below you
will find a step-by-step method to determine the root cause of a vacuum fault. Please be aware
that there can be more than one problem in a vacuum system, and you might need to go through
the steps several times to eliminate the problem.
A vacuum fault can be caused by a single or combination of the following points:
Insufficient amount of oil in the vacuum pump
Overdue vacuum pump service
Defective pressure transmitter (Pmem)
Defect or leakage in the vacuum pump/filter
Leak in hose, fittings, or connections
Leak in membrane
Method to determine the cause:
1. Clear any active alarms before continuing with these steps.
2. Check the vacuum pump running hours in the Service menu
R08 Vacuum pump oil/filt. If the number of running hours is above or approaching 2000 and
will most likely reach 2000 during the next trip, perform a mandatory vacuum pump oil and
filter change.
3. If the vacuum pump oil and filter has not been changed, check that the vacuum pump oil level
is above minimum. Fill with the correct oil type (as specified in this Manual) until maximum
and select line S01 Manual operation.
and view line I18 Membrane pressure. The value should be
