The Solution

The KCDC now has two distinct networks providing their
complete solution - frame relay for Voice over IP traffic, and
wireless for data traffic.
A fiber connection was installed from the new EOC building
into the existing Operations Depot building, and a wireless
connection links the Operations Depot to the Papaparaumu
water reservoir. This is a large tank on a hill, and on top of
this is small communications room, 3m by 2m.

This location was chosen for the central point of the
wireless network because of its physical location - on top of
a hill, allowing line of sight wireless to all other council
offices, from the Raumati main office in the south to the
Otaki office/library in the north.
